“Automated Materials Characterization” / “Automated Mineralogy” is an analytical technique based on scanning electron microscopy (SEM) image analysis coupled with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). This analysis method includes analytical systems such as the Mineral Liberation Analyzer (MLA), the QEMSCAN (Quantitative Evaluation of Minerals by Scanning Electron Microscopy) and others. With this analytical technique almost every kind of solid material can be analyzed, regardless of whether the material is of natural or artificial origin. Examples for such materials are ores, rocks, minerals, processing products, recycling materials, environmentally relevant materials, metals, alloys, building materials, special glasses, and many more.

Efficient comminution processes require a careful process design and presume a deep understanding of the grinding fundamentals as well as the appropriate machinery. This machinery includes comminution devices from crushing to fine grinding as well as different kinds of classifiers like sieves, hydro cyclones, static and dynamic air classifiers.
Ore Characterization, Process Mineralogy and Geo-Metallurgy for Copper (Mo-Au) Operations
The proposed short course/interactive workshop provides an overview of the current use of chemical, mineralogical and metallurgical data in ore profiling, modeling, forecasting and process troubleshooting in Copper-(Moly/Gold) Operations. It focuses on actual operational issues, problems and potential solutions. It covers – in an overview mode - the most critical and frequent process and plant challenges related to ore characteristics in the copper mining business.
Raw materials and water treatment based on membrane technology
Superior understanding of water management related issues in order to ensure the proper specification of a successful solution for a given application is required in nearly any business. In the raw materials sector, where water is one of the most important resources interacting with different steps of the value-added chain, this includes the knowledge about possibilities and limitations of the different water treatment processes. Thereby membrane processes are of special interest, as in general very reliable and resource efficient solutions can be made available. These are presented in the short course using a technological approach based on a phenomenological oriented methodology and on decision trees.
